Each tutor establishes a professional relationship as a tutor for APA. Tutors are selected based on their educational background, experience with children and their passion for teaching. They are also required to have a recent criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening.

Our tutors share in our philosophy of teaching to the individual and each tutor we hire is gifted in the art of individualizing instruction. Moreover, each shares our enthusiasm for inspiring a passion for learning and empowering students to discover their strengths and achieve results.

Mary Printz


Mary is a seasoned educator and educational consultant with three decades of experience.  She combines her expertise with a deep understanding of the learning process to provide help and direction to create meaningful educational experiences. She is dedicated to helping children cultivate their individuality, and achieve not only academic, but lifelong success in a loving and kind atmosphere.


With a passion to see students flourish in reading, writing and math, she and her team offered summer camps. APA began offering tutoring services which have been increasingly popular ever since.


Since 2015, APA has impacted preschool to adult students in providing remediation and enrichment. Mary has spoken in Canada, United States and India sharing her passion to help learners achieve their true potential.


Jeff Printz


Jeff has been a Project Manager and Professional Engineer for 25 years and is a leader in mathematical instruction. He believes passionately in equipping students with real-world skills that will help them to excel both in and out of the classroom.


Jeff’s role at APA is diverse, spanning a wide range of ages and subjects. He spearheads APA’s math programming and is an experienced reading interventionist. Jeff trains teachers and students in applying brain-based learning strategies to dramatically increase understanding and academic performance. 



He has always had a love of teaching and sharing knowledge with others of all ages. Seeing a student’s confidence grow as they learn is what he finds most rewarding.

Kim has enjoyed working in resource room and abilities support with special needs (both youth & adult). She has experience as Kindergarten and Art teacher and received her diploma in resource room applications and early childhood education at the U of R. Kim has worked with linguistics, reading comprehension programs, adapted program application and physiotherapy application.

Her field of study involves: (Neurorelational Framework (NRF) Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder, Crisis Intervention, Public Guardian & Trusteeship, Brain Injury Stigma Part I & II, EssentiALZ & Dementia (10 symptoms, early stages and daily planning portion of the course) and Employment First. Kim holds current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training ASIST, SIVA, First Aid and Abuse Prevention, Open Future Learning, Medical Admin & Response Protocol Training, Foundations of Leadership and The Discovery Program (for employment and training of special needs in the work force).

Carly Desjarlais grew up in Medicine Hat, attending MHHS and Medicine Hat College, before receiving a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 2010.  In her nine years, Carly has been fortunate to teach a number of different grade levels and subject areas. These past few years, she has specialized in early childhood development and loves planting the seeds of early literacy in her young students. Since childhood Carly has always had a passion for Language Arts and could typically be found curled up with a book or writing and illustrating a story. She is still an avid reader and writer today who also enjoy the outdoors, cycling, Crossfit, and spending time with her family.

Carissa has been teaching for 5 years.  She began her teaching career after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Warner Pacific College in Oregon. After moving to Calgary she taught Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 6, and Special Education. My husband and I moved to Medicine Hat in 2017 to join our church. In addition to my role as a tutor I am also a mom- this is my favourite role of all! My son was born in December 2017 and watching him grow has been my greatest joy! Some other things that bring me joy are the TV show “The Office,” reading (especially historical fiction), my cat, and like most teachers that I know- coffee!!

Elizebeth started her career as a teacher in northern Alberta where she taught for 18 years, an experience that taught her a great deal about teaching, especially ESL students. This lead to taking on the role of Principal.   Over the years Elizebeth has taught Home Economics, English, Math, and Social Studies.  She has a love of Alberta history and writing and has written novel studies and fiction. She developed a love of writing in while attending Medicine Hat College. Elizebeth finished her Bachelor of Education at the University of Lethbridge with a major in Social Studies and a minor in English, then  went to the University of Calgary where she earned a BA in History. She also completed her Masters of Education at the University of Calgary.

Ruth graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan. She enjoyed classroom teaching for 35 years and only gave it up with her move to Medicine Hat in June of 2018. Though she has taught many subjects at many grade levels, her passions are Reading, Writing, Math, Music, and the challenge that technology presents. Outside of her tutoring adventures, she loves spending time with her husband, her three children, and her very large extended family. Together with them, she enjoys good food, good books, singing & playing music, watching favourite sports teams play, her pets and grand-pets, and an animated discussion on just about any topic.

Born and raised in Medicine Hat, Landon had a wonderful K-12 experience attending Mother Teresa Elementary, St. Mary’s Junior High, and McCoy High School. After graduating from McCoy, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in History through Athabasca University and a Bachelor of Education degree through the Werklund School of Education with the University of Calgary. Landon has always had a keen passion for History, Social Studies, and reading. Some of his favorite things to do are spending time with family, golfing and cheering on his favorite sports teams!
